Svartsengi and our exhibition in Reykjanes have always been popular visit sites. However, various changes were introduced at Svartsengi this year and visitor access was restricted. Our exhibition at Reykjanes has always attracted a lot of attention. Visitors are invited to learn about geothermal energy, the solar system and the different types of energy production.
A total of 5,500 guests visited us at Svartsengi and Reykjanes in 2017.
HS Orka organised four hikes and one cycling trip in the Reykjanes area this summer in collaboration with Reykjanes Geopark and the Blue Lagoon. The hiking trips were diverse in nature and well attended. Guðmundar Ó. Friðleifsson offered a guided, geoscience tour of the Eldvörp area and a birdlife and coastal ecosystem tour of Sandgerði. A musical hike from the Kirkjuvogskirkja Church in Höfnum and to the childhood home of Ellý and Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsso proved an amazing success and attracted over 200 people.
